Star Wars: The Force Awakens Rey and Finn costumes, plus BB-8 droid on display at D23 Expo...

These original film costumes from the new Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens certainly caused a photography frenzy at Disney's D23 Fan Expo when I attended on Friday August 14, 2015. There was understandable excitement as not only could you get a closer glimpse of Daisy Ridley's 'Rey' shipyard scavenger costume and John Boyega's 'Finn' costume from out behind reflective cases, but you could also marvel at the new instant design classic droid, 'BB-8'.

Michael Kaplan was the Costume Designer tasked with dressing the worlds of this seventh installment in the Star Wars film franchise, and not only has he worked previously with J. J. Abrams on the reboot of the Star Trek cinematic universe, but he's also known for his costumes in Blade Runner, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and the movie Burlesque to name but a few.

Plus if you like these new costumes, be sure to also check out Gwendoline Christie's fantastic Captain Phasma and new First Order Stormtrooper costumes.

How can you not love the adorable astromech droid BB-8, with his familiar domed head that evokes the iconic 'R2-D2', but its ball design which makes him unique and something we've never seen before. This is the droid you're looking for.

We may not know their surnames yet (maybe a Solo or Skywalker?), but it was cool to see these outfits up close which feel like they belong in the Star Wars universe, but are bringing something new too.

Everything I've heard about this super-secretive new film is encouraging, from on-location filming to real sets (less green screen), more puppets and animatronics (compared to CGI overload) and now these fab costumes and props. It's certainly reawakened my interest in the Star Wars universe after Episodes I-III.

Daisy Ridley wears this costume of viscose, cotton, hemp, wool and leather as 'Rey' on the desert planet Jakku.

Once again I make no apologies for the number of images as I know cosplayers, costumers and enthusiasts alike love to see the costume detail for their own projects. Plus I can imagine that we'll be seeing loads of Star Wars inspired costumes this Halloween.

If you're a Star Wars fan, be sure to also check out Darth Maul's costume from Episode I and the iconic Darth Vader costume from Episode IV on display at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
