In the adaptation of Philip Roth's 1997 novel American Pastoral, Ewan McGregor makes his directorial debut and plays 'Seymour "Swede" Levov', a former high school star athlete and successful Jewish businessman living a seemingly perfect life in 1960s America, until his daughter 'Merry' (played by Dakota Fanning) and her radical new political views and terrorist activities threaten to destroy their family and way of life.

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride TV costumes on display...

Before audiences get to know Benedict Cumberbatch as 'Doctor Strange' on the big screen, it's worth noting that the British actor was entertaining viewers on the small screen with his enigmatic portrayal of a modern day 'Sherlock Holmes' in the BBC's Sherlock. In the 2016 special episode, between the show's third and fourth seasons, the infamous detective was transported back to Victorian England, the time period where Arthur Conan Doyle's literary creation was originally set.

With a clever plot device, Sherlock was able to flashback to the past from its contemporary setting, and Costume Designer Sarah Arthur and Assistant Costume Designer/Costume Supervisor Ceri Walford were able to dress Benedict Cumberbatch in the Baker Street detective's iconic deerstalker hat.

These Victorian style costumes were photographed on display at the 10th Art of TV Costume Design exhibition at Downtown L.A.'s FIDM Museum on August 9, 2016.

Plus for another take on the fictional hero's look, be sure to also check out Robert Downey Jr.'s film costume from Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows from 2011.

Phil Tippett puppets, models, artwork and more up for auction...

Now's your chance to snap up some authentic artifacts from the archives of veteran effects artist and filmmaker Phil Tippett with Prop Store's latest online auction. With a phenomenal career working on films like Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Starship Troopers, Ghostbusters 2, Willow, Dragonslayer and more fantasy and sci-fi films, this auction has over 400 collectable items for fans to bid on, from maquettes to concept artwork, screen-used models and props, plus movie memorabilia from many fan-favourite movies.

An iconic costume which caught my eye was this RoboCop suit from the 1990 sequel, on which Phil Tippett served as Associate Producer and was credited with animated sequences in the futuristic sci-fi film. This cool robotic costume is expected to sell for $30,000-$50,000.

Duros Cantina mask from Star Wars: A New Hope

Next up are two treats from 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope. I think the reason many fans reacted favorably to The Force Awakens was that it returned to the original trilogy's use of location filming, alien masks and animatronic creature effects, rather than overly relying on CGI effects.

The Duros featured in Star Wars iconic Mos Eisley cantina scene in a corner booth was made by Phil Tippett as part of Rick Baker's makeup department.

This latex creature mask from the classic film will likely set collectors back around $50,000-$70,000.

Trash Compactor Monster from Star Wars: A New Hope

And finally, most fans will immediately recognise this creature, the infamous eyeball on a stalk that popped out of the water in the trash compactor on the Death Star when Luke, Leia, Han and Chewbecca were trying to escape from Darth Vader's forces.

This cool Dianoga puppet created by Phil Tippett is estimated to sell for $50,000-$70,000.

There are also many more affordable items for movie enthusiasts starting their collections, so be sure to click through to Prop Store to browse all the Phil Tippett items available before the auction closes on October 21, 2016.

Gravity Astronaut costumes and space capsule on display...

Alfonso Cuarón's 2013 sci-fi spectacle Gravity won seven Oscars for its tale of a medical engineer (played by Sandra Bullock) on her first shuttle mission when an accident strikes a routine spacewalk leaving her stranded in the blackness of space and fighting for her survival.

In the feature film, which earned Sandra Bullock her second Academy Award nomination, the actress plays 'Dr. Ryan Stone', an astronaut stranded in space after her NASA space shuttle is destroyed by a cloud of debris and she has to reach the International Space Station with her fellow astronaut 'Matt Kowalski' (George Clooney) for a chance to survive.

George Clooney's character is a veteran astronaut in control of this mission, his intended final journey to space, and after the accident he uses the MMU (Manned Maneuvering Unit) jetpack to get the duo to the International Space Station.

Sacrificing himself so she can survive, Dr. Stone uses a Soyuz module to reach the Chinese space station Tiangong-1 in order to successfully pilot another capsule back to Earth.

If you like these costumes and props, fans of cinematic space travel can also check out Matt Damon's NASA astronaut costume from The Martian and Anne Hathaway's spacesuit from Interstellar on display.

Veep season five TV costumes on display...

This September Julia Louis-Dreyfus took home her fifth consecutive Emmy win at the 68th Emmy Awards for her role as Vice President 'Selina Meyer' in HBO's political satire, Veep. In a previous season she was elevated to America's acting Commander-in-Chief and here's a glimpse of some of her Presidential looks, and costumes worn by her staff, on the show.

Kathleen Felix-Hager is the Costume Designer responsible for dressing the female President (and her minions), like this blue Congressional ball gown and her military-style leather jacket with aviator shades.

These fun Veep costumes were photographed on display at Downtown L.A.'s FIDM Museum on August 9, 2016.

It's worth noting that Veep was designed as a parody of Washington, D.C. politics, but with this U.S. election year turning into the most divisive, vulgar and embarrassing in world history thanks to Donald Trump, it's getting harder to distinguish between real life and this scripted comedy series at times.

Let's hope a female U.S. President isn't just something you see on television shows this November.

In the series which is like a mashup of slasher flick Friday the 13th and 80s black comedy Heathers, Emma Roberts plays the leader of a snobby clique at her campus sorority house, who have a penchant for no foam pumpkin spiced lattes and high fashion.

I can't help but think that 'The Chanels' would make for an excellent group costume this Halloween, what do you think? Obviously your bitchiest friend would have to be Chanel #1.
